Basic Version

HyperHybrid – a series plug-in hybrid powertrain solution – can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of worldwide mobility. The Trick: Always efficient and only as much performance as necessary.  The System has no mechanical link to the drive. The encapsulated unit containing the combustion engine and generator almost always runs in the efficient full load range. The 11 kWh battery allows it to run for 58 kilometers on electricity alone. We provide a drivetrain concept that boasts maximum energy efficiency and unmatched compactness and pricing. The very first step to affordable electrified vehicles for everyone. The compactness of the components significantly improves packaging freedom for automotive designers and engineers.

Efficient and Affordable Plug-Innovations

Customers are intrigued by electric vehicles but suffer from range anxiety. Journeys must be carefully planned based on the charging infrastructure currently available. HyperHybrid – a series hybrid powertrain solution – combines electric driving with unlimited range at maximum efficiency and affordable costs.

Ultra-compact Combustion Engine

The HyperHybrid powertrain features an ultra-compact combustion engine boasting unmatched efficiency, a high-power low-cost battery based on 18650 cells, and integrated thermal management covering the complete powertrain and the passenger cabin. Customers can now decide whether to plug in the vehicle or not; it is no longer mandatory. The combustion engine with integrated generator is always on board to provide energy for driving the vehicle.

Accessing Various Segments

The ultra-compact drivetrain components can be integrated in various vehicle segments – even in small cars. In larger vehicles, HICE enables an extra 250mm of bay space to be used for more passenger comfort or additional seating capacity. The compactness of the components massively improves packaging freedom for automotive designers and engineers.

High Performance Version

We offer scalable solutions perfectly suited for a variety of requirements, from affordable mass-market mobility solutions to premium segments.  In larger vehicles, the ultra-compact, turbocharged ZV-Generator provides an extra bay space that can be used for increased passenger comfort or additional seating capacity. With a variety of component configurations anything is possible, for example, two- or four-wheel drive.

HyperHybrid for Premium Segments

The high-performance drivetrain is a set of solutions focusing on premium vehicle segments. This powertrain concept is derived from OBRIST Powertrain’s mass market components and provides variants with different performance levels. With a variety of component configurations anything is possible – for example two or four-wheel drive.

Superior NVH Performance

  • Turbocharged Combustion Engine (85kWe high continuous power)
  • Design with Two Generators (for a fully balanced engine)
  • Better NVH Comfort (than a V12 engine)

Battery System

For higher battery electric power and longer battery electric ranges, the installed battery capacity has to be enlarged in this drivetrain concept. This is achieved by the twin-battery strategy that combines two of the OBRIST Powertrain’s mass market batteries for higher performance.

HyperHybrid Demonstrator

Real-Life Experience

The HyperHybrid powertrain is installed in a fully functional demonstrator that has undergone intensive bench and road testing. The operating strategy utilizes battery power in the city and switches to hybrid mode on highways (ZV-Generator on). The innovative ZV-Generator concept is responsible for BEV-comparable NVH values. The prototype of the HyperHybrid is hidden under the conventional metal exterior of a Chinese Geely EC7. The demonstrator represents the global mid-size car and even as a prototype, the vehicle competes with the greatest of ease against market-leaders in terms of efficiency.

OBRIST has established and applied a quality management system for development, manufacturing, assembly and marketing of components and systems.
